This file explains the differences between Ice-E and Ice, and serves as the documentation for features and semantics that are unique to Ice-E. For more information about topics not addressed in this file, please refer to the Ice documentation.

A description of the changes that have been made since the last Ice-E release. Ice-E developers are encouraged to review this document to learn about issues that may affect existing applications when upgrading to the latest release.

Ice-E Distributions

Each archive contains the complete source code of Ice-E for C++ and the Slice compiler, as well as a statically-linked Slice compiler executable suitable for use on our supported platforms.

Get the latest version!

This page is for a previous version of Ice-E (1.3.0). However, we highly recommend upgrading to the most recent release. Although ZeroC supports older versions for users with support contracts, we only provide free support on our forums for the latest release.

All downloads are released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). If you wish to use Ice in proprietary applications, please see our licensing page.

Installation Trouble?

If you need installation support, you can use our developer forums. Make sure to read the README and INSTALL files included in the distributions first. For information about supported operating systems, please see our list of supported platforms.

Documentation

The distributions contain a README file that explains the differences between Ice-E and the full version of Ice. Other than that, there is no separate documentation for Ice-E. Ice-E is a subset of Ice, therefore you can use our Ice documentation.
